October 4th is National Frappe Day!
Frappe dates back to the 1957 International Trade Fair in Thessaloniki. The representative of the Nestlé company, Yannis Dritsas, was exhibiting a new product for children, a chocolate beverage produced instantly by mixing it with milk and shaking it in a shaker. Dritsas’ employee Dimitris Vakondios was looking for a way to have his usual instant coffee during his break but he could not find any hot water, so he mixed the coffee with cold water and a shaker.
This improvised experiment established this popular Greek beverage. Frappe has been marketed chiefly by Nestlé and is among the most popular drinks in Greece. Frappe has been called the national coffee of Greece, and is available at virtually all cafés. (Source: Wikipedia)
You don’t have to travel to Greece though to enjoy a good Frappe – just visit us at Simpatico Espresso, especially today to celebrate this cold, coffee beverage!
Here it is, your Coffee Quote of the Week!
Over second and third cups flow matters of high finance, high state, common gossip and low comedy. Coffee is a social binder, a warmer of tongues, a soberer of minds, a stimulant of wit, a foiler of sleep if you want it so. From roadside mugs to the classic demi-tasse, it is the perfect democrat. ~Author Unknown
Today is National Coffee Day and we want you to celebrate with us at Simpatico Espresso!
Coffee was discovered in the 9th century in Ethiopia by a goat herder named Kaldi, who began experimenting with coffee berries after seeing how it stimulated his goats. A century later, Arabs began roasting and trading coffee, then beans entered Indian and European markets and the first coffee shop opened in Constantinople in 1475. The popularity of coffee took off and began to grow at an exponential rate.
Today, over 400 billion cups of coffee are consumed each year. It is a world commodity that is second only to oil! We hope you will find the time today to celebrate this international favorite by visiting Simpatico Espresso for one of our top-notch coffees, lattes, cappuccinos or whatever coffee product you desire!
We appreciate all of the kind feedback we get from our customers and social media friends. But now we need some help spreading the good word about our coffee! If you like us, please leave us a review online – Google, Yelp, or Urban Spoon! Again, we appreciate all of your feedback, comments and reviews. We hope to keep growing, improving and making Simpatico Espresso the best place for coffee in Downtown Pittsburgh!
