Your coffee quote of the week!
“Coffee is a beverage that puts one to sleep when not drank.” – Anonymous
A little humor to get you through this Friday and into the weekend!
What’s one good thing about the colder weather? HOT CHOCOLATE. Sometimes, there’s nothing that makes you feel better than a nice, warm cup of hot chocolate! Whether you are making some at home, in the office, or stopping by Simpatico Espresso for a cup, it seems like everyone loves this childhood favorite! See below for your little history lesson of the day – of course, about hot chocolate!
History of Hot Chocolate:
Chocolate was discovered by the explorer Hernando Cortez and brought to Europe in the early 1500s. They drank it cold, flavored with wine and chili peppers, and not sweet. The Spanish were protective of this new beverage, and it was over a hundred years before it began spreading across Europe. After its was introduced in Spain, the drink began to be served hot, sweetened and without the chili peppers.
Your coffee quote of the week in from the television show Will and Grace, from the character Karen Walker:
I’ll quit coffee. It won’t be easy drinking my Bailey’s straight, but I’ll get used to it. It’ll still be the best part of waking up.
Today, we celebrate Christopher Columbus and his discovery of the New World!
Christopher Columbus’ first voyage to the Americas in 1492 also launched the era of large-scale contact between the Old and the New Worlds that resulted in the Colombian Exchange which brought – yes you guessed it – coffee (amongst many other things) to the Americas!
Let’s stretch it and see if drinking Columbian coffee will feel Columbus like!
